June 29th, 2012I've been really blown away lately by some Fortune Magazine covers I've come across, from the 1940s and 50s.
Incredibly bold, I can't help but feel these designs would still be very effective on today's news stands. Certainly caught my eye!

June 16th, 2012I really enjoyed this short motion graphics film done for Heineken, showcasing the amazing Erik Bruun designed posters advertising the 'Jaffa' drink brand. Fascinating to see posters from the 40s and 50s, brought to life in such an enthralling way.
May 24th, 2012Check out this amazing 1958 Design Annual on flickr. Amazing to see such perfect specimens of Mid Century Modern design, as judged by designers of the period.
May 15th, 2012How ironic, that just days after I impulse buy some Eagle Pencil packaging from the 30s, a package should arrive from my friend Linda, with some more recent Eagle Pencil packaging!
There's no printed date on this one... but I'm going to estimate... 1968-1976?
Very interesting to see the evolution.
May 15th, 2012A while back, I had the pleasure of designing an 'ampersand' themed print for Fifty Five Hi's, along with 9 other designers, many of whom I know and admire. They were all packaged together and sold as a set, and I highly recommend you pick one up to check out the killer designs, all hand printed.
Here are some shots of my poster, 'Vertically Integrated Ampersand Factory'.
May 13th, 2012I have been enamored with the Brunswick branding for the past few months. Found this 'Professional Billiard Chalk' box in an antiques store earlier, and fell in love. What a great logotype. A perfect example of something that could have been ugly, taken one step further.
May 13th, 2012I cannot tell you how deliriously happy I am to own this thing.
I saw a few photos of some Eagle Pencil packaging on flickr a while back, and was very impressed. In an antique store earlier, I found a goldmine of Eagle stuff (they had 4 of these boxes, and the actual pencils themselves were inside smaller boxes sold separately).
Gold ink... custom type... what a masterpiece. Dated 1936!
If your individual packaging pieces are being sold in stores 76 years later, I think you did well on the design ;-)
April 25th, 2012A great package to open, today. Field Notes National Crop Edition.
April 14th, 2012I was just admiring this billboard, the one they park the Delorean behind in Back To The Future II.
March 21st, 2012Found these on the rear cover and title page of a 1961 Popular Mechanics Home Handyman book.
March 19th, 2012Wow. My friend Linda dug this one up, via sandiv999 on Flickr.
1952, New York City. Architect, Victor Gruen. Graphics consultant Alvin Lustig.
I'm a huge Lustig fan, since my pal Jim sent me his biography. Incredible stuff.
February 24th, 2012Just saw this pop up in my Instagram feed, via Ryan Doggendorf.
February 15th, 2012Emir dug this one up. The Heinz international headquarters in 1966. 'What if this was your office?'
